The Day of Pentecost is the Sunday which is seven weeks after Easter when the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples is celebrated. The term is derived from the Greek for fiftieth day.
The Season of Pentecost is half of the Christian year from the day after Pentecost through the day before Advent. It is not the Pentecost Season; that term, when used, is another way of designating the great fifty days of the Easter season.
The liturgical color for Pentecost is red. Music used for Pentecost suggests the excitement of those followers of Jesus who were first moved by the Holy Spirit to preach that day. Pentecost is considered the day the church was born.
ORDINARY TIME
Ordinary time are the Sundays between Pentecost and the beginning of Advent. These are designated as First Sunday after Pentecost, Second Sunday after Pentecost etc. This custom is "ordinary" in that we use ordinal numbers to name the Sundays. These Sundays are just as important to the nourishment of the soul as are the feast days of Christmas and Easter. Worship and daily Bible study will enable each Christian to find God’s grace.
