HEARTS FOR MINISTRY STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN On Sunday, October 26th, we celebrated our Commitment Sunday, which is the end of the stewardship focus.  We ask that you be sure to turn in your 2009 Faith Commitment card as soon as possible if you have not done so already.

 

CHILDREN’S CHURCH FOR YOUNG CHILDREN EACH SUNDAY There is “Children’s Church” for children under the age of Kindergarten each Sunday.  It is right after the Children’s Time in the worship service.  Children go to the chapel where there will be praise songs, a worship activity, an offering, and a closing prayer. 

 

WOMEN’S ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT- DEADLINE IS NOV 17TH Join women of all ages in Celebration Hall on Monday, December 1 at 5:30 p.m. for an evening of hors d’oeuvres, dessert, fellowship and a special worship service featuring special music and guest speakers Laura Harkey, Inger McManus, Judy Holik, and Julie Halfmann. Reservations are required - sign up by Nov. 17. Registration brochures are located at entrances to the worship areas, the Hospitality Area, and on bulletin boards throughout the building. TAIZÉ MEDITATIVE SERVICE EACH WEDNESDAY AT 5:30 This weekly meditative communion service is held each Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:00 pm in the Chapel.  It is a beautiful, relaxing service that is a great way to unwind during a hectic week.  It’s designed so you can come to worship, then go to the Wednesday night classes.  Childcare is available in the Nursery during the service.

 

PARENTS MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY (11/19) – YOUR INPUT WANTED FOR HIRING A CHILDREN’S DIRECTOR All parents of our children are invited to attend a Profile Development meeting on Wednesday, November 19th, at 6 p.m. in the Cheers classroom.  Our goal will be crafting a profile for the position of Children’s Director – education, experience, temperament, theology, etc.  Once completed, the profile will help develop the job description. 

 

SANCTUARY CHOIR REHEARSALS HELD EACH WEDNESDAY Come be a part of the growing music ministry by singing in the Sanctuary Choir.  Rehearsals are at 7 PM in the Choir Room and now is a great time to join. For more info contact Music Director Koste Belcheff (655-8981 or koste@firstmethodist.net).

 

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN MEET THURSDAY The UMW will meet this Thursday, November 20th, at 9:45 am in the Library. The program will be on Thanksgiving and Advent.  Come and enjoy the fellowship.  All women are invited to attend!  For more information call Rosa Gonzales (465-4615).  

 

KID’S NIGHT OUT MOVED TO NOVEMBER 21ST Kid’s Night Out is a great break for parents, with your children in the loving arms of your church – having fun!.  KNO is usually the 2nd Friday of each month, but due to the 3rd Grade Bible sleepover it has been moved to one week later (Friday, November 21st).  This KNO will feature a share feast meal for the kids!  KNO is from 6 PM to 10:30 for a cost of $10 per child. There is an option to leave them until midnight for a $15 cost.  To reserve a spot call Mallory (212-6202).

 

FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY GARAGE SALE – NOVEMBER 22ND The Financial Peace University Class will hold a garage sale in Heritage Hall on Saturday, November 22nd from 8 am to 1 pm.  Lots of great items on sale.  If you have been part of a previous FPU class, you can join in on this garage sale.  For info, contact LaQueta Shelburne  (W: 944-9447).

 

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD GIFTS DUE NEXT SUNDAY – NOVEMBER 23RD This Christmas you can share the love and hope of Jesus Christ with a needy child in a country like Uganda or El Salvador by using a simple shoe box. Operation Christmas Child is an easy missions project that every member and family can participate in by bringing a gift-filled shoe box to the church on or before November 23rd. Information about filling boxes is outlined in the Operation Christmas Child brochures located outside the entrances to the Sanctuary, in the Hospitality Area, and in Celebration Hall. You will need one brochure for each shoebox you intend to fill. FMI contact Linda Rasor (949-7504) or Sherrie Walker in the church office (655-8981).

 

CHARGE CONFERENCE IS MONDAY - NOVEMBER 24TH AT 6 PM The annual business meeting of the church, Charge Conference, is scheduled for Monday, November 24th at 6 PM in the Cheers classroom.  District Superintendent Larry Altman will be in attendance.  All members of the church are invited to attend, but only Church Council members are allowed to vote on action items.

 

PATRIOT PEN PALS IN NEED OF ADDRESSES Our Committee is preparing Christmas gift boxes to send to our men and women in the military. We also send out cards of encouragement throughout the year. Please contact Cathy Hubbard (658-5375) to add a name and address to the list. (Other committee members are Lois Harrison, Rachel Baring, Laura Harkey, and Pat Massey).

 

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS MUSICAL – CHILDREN’S CHOIR MEETING ON SUNDAYS AT 9:30  On Sunday evening, December 14th at 3:00pm the Children of FirstChurch will present, “It All Happened in the Country” a Children’s Christmas Musical in Celebration Hall to be combined with a Christmas Carol-Sing, followed by cookies and hot chocolate.  All children ages Kinder through 6th are encouraged to come be a part of this special event.  Join Mrs. Nehls each Sunday morning at 9:30am (note change from 9 am) in Room 204 as we practice and sing in preparation for this event.  Children’s choir will now meet on Sunday morning, and will not meet on Wednesday nights.  For more information call Mrs. Nehls (227-6163).  We look forward to seeing you there!

 

ADULT HELP NEEDED FOR CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS MUSICAL Mrs. Nehls needs adult volunteers to help with “It All Happened in the Country”.  If you enjoy creating sets, costuming, or just helping with the children while they sing and practice we need you.  Practices will be held each Sunday at 9:30am in Room 204.  This is going to be an exciting time for all.  Come join us as we celebrate the Birth of Christ in song with the children.  For more information or to help call Debbie Nehls at 227-6163.

 

HOUSE OF FAITH CHRISTMAS GIFTS – PICK UP YOUR GIFT TAG As we have the past 10+ years, we will be asking families in the congregation to support one or more child in the House of Faith program by purchasing a Christmas gift for them. We will receive tags for approximately 45 children that list their first name, age, gender, and something they would like for Christmas. The gifts cannot cost more than $20. Families are expected to pick a tag, purchase and wrap the gift, place the tag on it for identification, and return it to the church office before Thanksgiving. HOF will pick them up. SIGN UP FOR THE ADVENT STUDY Our own Rev. Nathaniel Hankins will lead this year’s Advent Study, “Come to the Manger”.  There will be 2 sessions on Tuesdays, starting December 2nd: (1) Tuesday mornings 10:00-11:30, and (2) Tuesday evenings 6:00-7:30, both in the Journey Classroom. Registration for the classes is underway in the Hospitality Area, and books are available for $6.50 each.

 

WEDNESDAY ADVENT WORSHIP & LUNCHES ARE COMING!!  Once again we will have special worship services on Wednesday at 12:05 during Advent (December 3, 10, and 17).  There will be guest speakers, special music and delicious catered lunch by City Café.  A FirstChurch tradition you don’t want to miss.
