Falling Upward Dialogue

Wednesdays, 6:30 pm, July 8 – Aug. 12, Harmony Classroom, facilitated by Pastor Sheree. Guided by Richard Rohr’s book, Falling Upward, we will share our life experience.  “With rare insight, Rohr takes us on a journey to give us an understanding of how the heartbreaks, disappointments, and first loves of life are actually stepping stones to the spiritual joys that the second half of life has in store for us.” Any adult of any age who is searching for “more to life” is welcome. Reading Rohr’s book is required. Please read The Invitation to a Further Journey through Introduction (pp. vii – xxxvii) before the first gathering and let Pastor Sheree know that you plan to participate. We hope books will be available for purchase in the church office by Tuesday, June 30 or you may purchase them from www.cokesbury.com. There is an accompanying Journal which you may purchase from Cokesbury.  FMI, email/call Pastor Sheree.

House of Faith Camp Meals on July 13

One big leap of faith!  House of Faith asked FUMC to consider providing meals for their high school campers at Lake Brownwood Retreat. Local groups and churches travel there and do this each day for their camps. This will be our first time to participate. We agreed to provide lunch and dinner on Monday, July 13. Several people have already agreed to participate, but more are needed. The church van will take those who are willing to spend the day (leave 8am – return by 8pm), but you can come help with any part of it if you want to take your own vehicle. Both meals will serve 300 people, so this is no simple task! However, when we consider the impact House of Faith has on the youth in our community, it was hard to say no! Please prayerfully consider your participation in this endeavor. Contact Sherrie Walker if you feel called to help out.

Youth Forum

There will be a youth forum night for youth, parents and open to any interested church members on Sunday, July 19 in Celebration Hall beginning at 5:00 pm.  This will include open discussion about plans and proposals for the upcoming 2015/16 year.  Do you have ideas?  Do you have questions? Do you have a heart for youth? How can you help?  You can help by attending, listening, discussing and being a part of helping the youth program at First Methodist move forward.

Bus Donations

Thank you for supporting the bus fund campaign!  We’re asking for your continued support as we are inching closer to our goal.  We’ve raised $62, 760 of the $75,000 needed.  The last two donations came in the form of $2 and $5 from some of our littlest FirstKids’ Club Summer Campers.  Can you find an extra $5 or $10 to give? Every little bit helps!  If you need more information, please stop by FirstPlace Café or email Karla at karla@firstmethodist.net.  Envelopes specifically for the bus fund can be found in FirstPlace Café and can be returned to the church office or in the offering plate on Sundays in any of the services.  Thanks again for your support—let’s keep up the momentum!
