West Texas Half & 5k

West Texas Counseling & Guidance has partnered with Race Texas to host a 5K and Half Marathon in San Angelo on October 19th, 2014. The race starts at 7:30am.  FUMC Youth will be serving the runners water and many FUMC members are running/walking to help raise money!  See how you can participate and support West Texas Counseling at www.sanangelocounseling.org

Talking with Children about Faith

FirstChurch will be offering a four-week class to help you feel secure in your faith discussions with your children and be better equipped as parents to help them come to know God. The class will meet at 12-1pm for four Sundays Oct 12 through Nov 2. Lunch for you and your children will be provided, and the children will have fun activities to do while you’re in the class. Trunk or Treat 2014

District Lay Ministry Training

The training scheduled for Saturday, October 18th at Ozona UMC has been cancelled.

Fall Academy Continues

The Academy will run Sept. 17 – Oct. 29, with meals being served from 5:00-6:00. Adult Classes will start at 6:00pm. The cost for dinner is $3/Adults, $2/Youth, $1/Children.  Menu for Oct 22: Chicken Chili, Cornbread, Green Salad, & Dessert

First Fruits from First Church

Church-wide Garage Sale and Festival Saturday, November 1, 2014

Start saving your items for the garage sale!  There will also be areas for plants, baked goods, casseroles, boutique items and household paraphernalia.  Non-perishable items should be delivered to the church gym by October 25 and food items will need to be brought on Friday, October 31.  Volunteers Needed.

You are invited to a church supper of taco soup, cornbread and dessert in Celebration Hall at 5:00 pm on November 1st, as we close the day celebrating this event, our love for one another and thanking God for His many blessings to our church!

 GriefShare’s “Surviving the Holidays”

First UMC offers this helpful workshop each year for those suffering the loss of a loved one. This one-time event will be held Monday, November 10, 2014 from 5:30-7:30 pm in the Cheers classroom on the third floor. Childcare is provided. Please pre-register in order to ensure you receive a free devotional and a notebook. There is no charge and the class is open to anyone interested. Please spread the word! Will You Help?

There is an elderly member of our church family who needs transportation to Sunday School at 9:30 and then transportation back home after the 10 45 service.  She lives in the South College Hills/Southland area. Please contact Mature Adult Ministries Chair, Kay Peek at 949-7477  if you can help.

There is also young female airman stationed at Goodfellow who needs a ride to and from church on Sunday mornings.  If you would consider making her transportation your ministry, contact Barry Dowell in the office at 655-8981 or barry@firstmethodist.net

Workers Needed for Nursery

If you or someone you know would like to work on Sunday mornings in the nursery, please contact Liz Calhoun in the office at 655-8981 or liz@firstmethodist.net  The job is 8:30-12:00 Sunday mornings.

Holiday Food Boxes

Each Fall, Methodist Assistance and the FUMC Food Pantry coordinate efforts to provide approximately 35 boxes of non-perishable food items and a frozen ham for each box, at the very low cost of $17 per box. The boxes can be purchased by individuals or classes, who can choose to give/deliver them to someone they know in need, or to someone assigned by Methodist Assistance. Orders are due October 26 and boxes/hams can be picked up November 16. Get order information in the FirstPlace Café, Sunday School classes, or contact BJ Mayer at 325-653-5959.

FUMC College Scholarships

Applications are ready for Fall 2014 Scholarships!  Applications can be found online or in the church office.  All applications are due back to the office by November 5.  FMI contact Anne Hardegree at anne.hardegree@saisd.org

New Tuesday Study “Breathe”

The Morning Glories Tuesday morning Bible Study group will begin a new study November 4 called “Breathe” by author/speaker, Priscilla Shirer.  This unique Bible study experience is for anyone who wants to learn how to create margin in their life and have room to . . .breathe. Kelley Cole will lead the study, which meets at 10am in the Journey Classroom (3rd floor). Workbooks are $10 and available at the first session. All are welcome!

Filling the FUMC Pantry in October

Please bring canned fruit, peanut butter, jello and pudding mixes, shampoo, and other toiletries to the FirstPlace Café or the church office. Leave items in the designated green containers. Send monetary donations, payable to “First UMC” and marked “Food Pantry”, to the church office, or place in the Offering plate.
