“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” Matthew 28:19

FIRST CHURCH
Statement of Purpose

At First Church of San Angelo we believe we exist to make disciples of Jesus Christ.  Matthew 28:19,20 tells us  “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.”  Therefore the purpose of our church is to realize this commission by making disciples of self and others.  In order to fulfill this Christ-given mission we employ 5 spiritual practices:

Hospitality:  Welcoming Others for Christ

Hospitality is inviting, welcoming, and including one another that all may find a spiritual home and discover for the unending riches of life in Jesus Christ.

“Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God.”  Romans 15:7

Worship:  Gathering to Celebrate Christ

Worship is the act of deliberately seeking an encounter with God in Christ.  Through worship, God actively seeks a relationship with us, pardons sins, restores relationships, and changes lives.

“How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!  My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the Lord.” Psalm 84:1,2

Faith Development:  Learning to live like Christ

Faith Development is purposeful learning designed to help us mature in Christ through Bible studies, Sunday School classes and support groups that apply our faith to life challenges.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:42

Mission & Service:  Helping Others for Christ

Mission & Service includes the projects, efforts, and the work people do to make a positive difference in the lives of others for the purposes of Christ.

“Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40

Generosity:  Giving as God gave Christ

Generosity is sharing and giving that exceeds all expectations, recognizing the Christian’s need to give because of the giving nature of God.

“You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity.”(II Corinthians 9:11)

Through the successful implementation and realization of these five practices we will be changed so that Jesus Christ may use us to change the lives of others. We will be a community of faith making disciples of Jesus Christ!
